Frequently Asked Questions

What Is Reiki Energy Therapy?

Energy Therapy is a holistic practice that works with the subtle energy field—sometimes called the biofield or aura—that surrounds and interacts with your physical body. These energetic layers are believed to influence your emotional, physical, and mental health.

Practices such as Reiki, crystal healing, sound tools, and mindful movement are used to clear blockages, restore balance, and support your body’s ability to heal itself. While these methods may feel modern, they’re rooted in traditions that have been practiced for thousands of years across many cultures.

How does Reiki Work?

Reiki is a Japanese healing art that channels life force energy—an invisible yet powerful force that animates everything around us. Every atom, in every object, plant, and person, is vibrating with this energy.

Reiki invites that energy to move with greater freedom through and around the body. It’s shared through gentle touch or hands held just above the skin, focusing on the body’s main energy centers and pathways. The goal is to encourage flow, raise energetic frequency, and dissolve areas where things may feel heavy, stagnant, or blocked.

What Does Reiki Feel Like?

No two sessions feel the same. Some people describe warmth, tingling, or waves of energy. Others enter a deeply restful state, even falling asleep. You might see colors or images in your mind’s eye, or feel emotions rise to the surface gently for release.

Occasionally, symptoms may temporarily intensify as your body begins to process stored tension—this is part of a natural reset known as a “healing response.” More often, clients leave feeling lighter, more at peace, and reconnected to themselves.

What Reiki Is and Isn’t

Reiki Is:

  • A supportive, non-invasive practice that soothes the nervous system and promotes emotional and physical relief.

  • A spiritual tool that encourages clarity, self-awareness, and personal alignment.

  • An integrative practice that complements other wellness approaches, both alternative and conventional.

  • Easy to learn—anyone can explore Reiki for personal or shared healing.

  • Offered in hospitals, clinics, and wellness settings around the world.

  • Equally effective whether received in person or from a distance.

Reiki Is Not:

  • A form of bodywork or massage. There’s no pressure or manipulation, and you remain fully clothed.

  • Tied to any religious path or doctrine. Reiki welcomes people of all faiths and belief systems—or none at all.

  • A quick fix. While profound results can happen in one session, deeper healing often unfolds over time. Reiki helps clear the way, but your participation and openness are essential.

What Happens in a Reiki Session?

Before we begin, I’ll ask a few gentle questions to get a sense of what brought you in and how you’d like to feel. You’re also invited to set an intention for the session—something that reflects who you want to be in the moment, rather than a future goal.

During the session, I’ll work with my hands on or above your body’s energetic centers. Guided by intuition and experience, I’ll focus on areas that may need support. The intention is to help your energy return to a state of flow, raising your vibration and allowing your body to shift into its natural healing mode.

You may feel deeply relaxed, emotional, energized, or inspired. Reiki meets you exactly where you are.

Is There Evidence That Reiki Works?

Yes—research into energy medicine has been growing steadily. According to the Association for Comprehensive Energy Psychology (ACEP), there are over 100 peer-reviewed studies on energy healing, including nearly 50 randomized controlled trials. Over 90% of them report positive effects.

Science is beginning to catch up to what practitioners and recipients have experienced for years: that subtle energy is real, measurable, and closely tied to our wellbeing.

Reiki is now part of patient care in more than 800 hospitals in the U.S., including world-renowned institutions like Mayo Clinic and Columbia Presbyterian. It’s been used to support first responders, veterans, athletes, and individuals going through surgery, cancer treatment, and emotional trauma.

What Can Reiki Help With?

Reiki works by helping your body shift into balance and restore its natural ability to heal. When your energy is aligned, your body can more easily relax, repair, and reset.

It can help ease:

  • Chronic pain and inflammation

  • Physical tension and injury

  • Emotional exhaustion or trauma

  • Nervous system dysregulation

  • Neuropathy and nerve discomfort

  • Migraines and headaches

  • Sleep difficulties

  • Grief and loss

  • Autoimmune conditions

  • Anxiety, depression, and stress

  • Life transitions, burnout, or spiritual disconnection

Whether you’re in a major life shift or simply looking to feel better in your body, Reiki can offer deep support and clarity. Each person’s healing path is different—and Reiki meets you exactly where you are.

Do I Have to Believe in Reiki for It to Work?

Not at all. Reiki doesn’t require belief—it simply asks for openness. Even if you’re not sure what to expect, the energy will go where it’s needed. You don’t have to “understand” it for it to help you.

What’s more important is your willingness to explore, to release what no longer serves you, and to be curious about what’s possible.

What Makes Spirit Quotient Reiki Different?

This work is deeply personal to me. I’ve walked through health challenges, emotional setbacks, and spiritual uncertainty. At one point, I felt disconnected and unsure how to move forward—until Reiki helped me rediscover my center.

That experience inspired me to become certified not just in Reiki, and to work with Guided Visualization including color and sound. I’m trained in Japanese lineages, including Usui Reiki Ryoho and Usui Shiki Ryoho, and I aim to keep the heart of this practice alive and authentic.

Every session I offer is grounded in compassion, presence, and a belief that you already hold the wisdom and power to heal.

My role is simply to help you reconnect with that part of yourself.
